ELECTED OFFICIAL DUTIES<\/strong><\/p>\n

Township Supervisor:<\/strong>
\nServes as the administrator of General Assistance, is the Treasure of Town Funds, and is ex-officio Treasurer for the Road and Bridge Funds. The Supervisor carries out those policies set by the Town Board.<\/p>\n

Township Clerk:<\/strong>
\nIs the keeper of the records of the Town, including those for the Road District (Highway) Commissioner. The Clerk must attest to the signatures of the Highway Commissioner and the Supervisor on certain documents, keep an accurate record of proceedings of all meetings, and is the official responsible for posting and\/or publishing all notices and ordinances of the Town.<\/p>\n

Township Trustees:<\/strong>
\nCarry out orders prescribed for them by the electors assembled at a Town Meeting, either annual or a special meeting.<\/p>\n

Examine and Audit all Town and Road and Bridge bills before they are paid.<\/p>\n

Set the amount an assessor is allowed for travel and office expense.<\/p>\n

Fills by appointment all vacancies occurring in their board.<\/p>\n

Designates the depository for all Town funds. Designate a depository for all Township Road funds.<\/p>\n

Provide for the purchase of insurance against any loss or liability of any officer, employee or agent of the township resulting from the wrongful or negligent act of any such officer, employee or agent while discharging and engaged in his duties and functions and acting within the scope of his duties and functions as an officer, employee or agent of the township.<\/p>\n

Prepares the Town Budget and Appropriation Ordinance or has it prepared and has it conveniently available to the public for inspection at least thirty (30) days prior to final action thereon.<\/p>\n

Assessor:<\/strong>
\nAppraises real property and maintains property record cards on all parcels in the Township. The Assessor sets property values in each township but does not levy nor assess the taxes on those properties. Levies are made by the governing body of each unit of government (cities, township, school districts, etc.) and tax rates are set by the clerk of each county.<\/p>\n

Highway Commissioner:<\/strong>
\nIs responsible for construction and maintenance of all roads and bridges that are not part of the federal, state, county, or municipal road systems. In Illinois 55% of the total road miles are under the jurisdiction of almost 1500 township road district commissioners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
