Clearly, Townships provide the best value in delivering benefits for the taxes paid.
St. Charles Township Jurisdiction is an area of a little over 36 square miles. The St. Charles Township Road District maintains the right-of-way of the street in all unincorporated areas.

We have right-of-ways measuring from 40 feet to 66 feet, or 20 feet to 33 feet from the center of the road. Within these right-of-ways the following maintenance is done:
Blacktop Patching & Coating
Blacktop Overlay
Brush Pickup
Crack Sealing
Gravel or Black Dirt Shouldering
Litter Pickup
Mulch Program
Roadside Mowing
Ditch Cleaning
Streetlights
Street Sweeping
Traffic Control Signing
Tree & Brush Trimming & Removal
Winter Snow & Ice Control
Access/Culvert Permits
St. Charles Township is equipped to handle most of these duties and to contract some with private enterprise. We also have excellent intergovernmental cooperation with the municipalities in and around the township boundaries. Manpower and equipment are often exchanged to make all of us more efficient.
