MISCELLANEOUS

As with any maintenance, each homeowner is more aware of the needs of their neighborhood than we are. Should items such as follows need attention, please bring it to our attention and we will gladly do what we can to address the situation.
Traffic Signs:
We erect and maintain most of the stop, speed limit and caution signs on the Township right-of-way under the authority of the Kane County Highway Engineer. Any request for sign placement must be in writing. If the request is for parking restrictions, a petition containing a
majority of signatures of affected neighbors is required with the request. Please call the Road District Office for specific requirements. All signs are inspected each month. If you notice a missing sign, please notify this office so we may quickly replace the sign and possibly avoid an accident.
Blacktop Patching:
Potholes are filled as soon as we are aware of them. Unfortunately, winter conditions cause all holes to reappear quickly after filling. We are continually searching for and testing new patching materials and methods.
Crack Sealing:
By preventing water from seeping into the road base, pavement life is prolonged. Crack sealing is performed each fall as conditions and time allow in an effort to extend road life.
Mowing:
Rural area right-of-ways are mowed 3-4 times per season as conditions warrant.
Street Sweeping:
Subdivisions with curbs and gutters are swept during the Summer and Fall months. Special sweeping following construction projects will be done on a pre-arranged basis.
Storm Sewer Maintenance:
Storm sewer basins are cleaned as needed. Inlet grates in the street are inspected and cleaned during and after most rainstorms. It is your responsibility to keep the grate and basin clean. If you suspect a problem with an inlet on your property, please call the Road District Office. Although the inlet and sewer are not within the Road
District jurisdiction, we may help solve your problem, and may keep water out of your house.
Pavement Sealing:
In an effort to extend pavement life beyond the normal ten-year recommended life cycle, new products are being field tested which chemically treats the pavement surface, adds asphaltines back to the pavement, and fills the voids in the pavement caused by normal wearing. We anticipate expanded use over all Township streets.
Tree Trimming:
Each fall the trees extending into the road right-of-way are trimmed so branches will not damage our snow removal equipment. While the tree may be planted on property, we are obligated to maintain the right-of-way. We do trim every tree as conscientiously as possible,
using American Association of Nurserymen Guidelines. Dead trees in the right-of-way are removed by the Road District at no charge. Wood resulting from trimmings and removal is sometimes available.
Litter Pick-Up:
We routinely patrol the Township for discarded litter. Every bag collected is opened and checked for point of origin. Where possible, violators are prosecuted to the fullest extent for unlawful disposal of litter.
Streetlights:
The Township is able to place streetlights in areas where safety is of concern. If you feel your area is in need, contact us in writing to request a light. We ask that you coordinate this request with your neighbors, as the light from the street travels to many houses and windows.
